Lakme Fashion Week 2013 witnessed the best in contemporary wear with an ethnic twist. The quality of cuts and silhouettes displayed rivaled the best in the world, and yet, there were those unique touches that characterize Indian tastes and styles. There were colourful jackets and bridal lehangas in innovative geometric patterns and motifs. Alongside bridal collections, there were contemporary and stylish skirts in varying lengths, as also peplum dresses in a myriad hues and cuts. The simplicity and the elegance of the styles on luxuriant fabrics were truly eye-catching.

From Sabyasachi to Rohit Bal to Manish Malhotra, Shilpa Reddy, Anita Dongre, Asmita Marwa and Masaba, the best was on display.

The Lakme Fashion Week had been conceived to showcase the best in Indian fashion and Indian Fashion Designers to the world. The vision came to life at LFW 2013. Here are some of the contemporary designs with an ethnic touch from the Lakme Fashion Week 2013.

Asmita-Marwa-Moon-Magic-At-Lakme-Fashion-Week

Asmita Marwa is a nationally- acclaimed fashion designer who has been showcasing her collections at the Lakme Indian Fashion Week since 2008. These models are showcasing her Moon Magic Collections.

Shilpa-Reddy

This ethnic wear from Shilpa Reddy has an ethereal feel to it. The dhoti cut salwar and pleated kurta paired with a soft net dupatta in bluish white is the best in wearable contemporary fashion. Shilpa Reddy, incidentally, is the winner of the 2004 Gladrags Mrs India contest. As a model, she was featured in the Kingfisher Calendar, and is also known for her philanthropy.

This beautiful ethnic outfit by Asmita was showcased by Olga Torovyk at Lakme Fashion Week 2013. The bright, colours of the kurta are offset by the off-white pyjamas.

An Anita Dongre mirror work bordered sari in pink. The designer has kept it simple, feminine and elegant.

Parineeti Chopra,walked the ramp for Masaba Gupta’s Postcards from Banaras collection at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer / Resort 2013 wearing this printed jacket and pink dhoti skirt.

Indian -born American designer Naaem Khan’s grey and black evening gowns in  simple and elegant cuts stood out at the Lakme Fashion Week 2013.

An awesome mind-blowing cape in a multitude of colours and prints that took everyone’s breath away. The earth hues and the beaded strands at the neck add an unearthly beauty to the piece.

Pallavi Jaipur’s designs at  Lakme Fashion Week 2013 once again showcased her play with colours. As usual, Pallavi’s designs tried to bring forth the best of Jaipur and its royal heritage.
