Rohit Bal – A distinguished Indian Fashion Designer

Born and raised amidst the beautiful land of Kashmir, Rohit Bal graduated from the famous Burn Hall School, Srinagar and later earned first class honors degree in History, from St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi. He also studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology where he still serves as respected alumni and occasionally lectures the upcoming designers.
Bal started his career in 1986, working with his brother Rajiv Bal, at his export house in New Delhi. His first own independent collection – Traditional wear for Men, was launched in 1990 and the rest is history.
Time Magazine, in one of its special report on Rohit Bal, described him as “India’s Master of fabric and fantasy” and true to every word of the saying, Bal has won numerous prestigious awards for his magnificent designs.The Khadi Gram Udyog, the largest handloom textile operation in India, chose him to work with them, and for them. Bal has won “Designer of the Year” at the Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Awards in 2001 and at the India Fashion Awards in 2006. In 2012, he was announced as the “Lakme Grand Finale Designer”.
Best known for his peacock and lotus motifs, Rohit Bal not only caters to the Indian crowd but also happens to be one of the most wanted fashion designers for Hollywood actors like Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson, Anna Kournikova, Elizabeth Hurley and Naomi Campbell. He has showcased his long standing affair with the art of designing at honorable platforms in countries like India, New York, Singapore and Paris which have been mostly sponsored by The Swatch Group. Bal was chosen as the ambassador for Omega, SA when they re-launched their watches in India in 2001. Since then, he has shared a special association with the Swatch Group.
