What you see - If you want to practice yoga in a time and cost-effective way, Yoga Jyoti could be worth a try. That’s because this place is unlike those routine yoga training centers where you have a bunch of people getting trained simultaneously under the guidance of a teacher, at a fixed time and on a day-to-day basis.
Yoga Jyoti is a charitable trust and the teachers here (Salil and Anita Ganeriwal) have studied under the guidance of Sri TK Desikachar at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai. This renowned training center in Chennai provides a two-year post graduate diploma course in yoga and people come from around the world to take up this holistic course.
In Hyderabad, the yoga classes are held at the teachers' (couple) plush residence. The room earmarked for yoga is well ventilated and mattresses are made available.
What you get - Here classes are held on a one-on-one basis (which means personal attention guaranteed), once a week and at a relatively less cost. For the rest of the week, you are left to practice on your own; after of course you learn the techniques well. Besides, the teacher provides a hand-drawn chart of various asanas practiced on the day, so that you can be guided when you practice throughout the week.
Each session is held for less than an hour here. In the first month the classes are held once a week and after that once a month (we told you it’s different). The asanas and breathing exercises suggested to you depend on your health status. And the teachers here do seem to know their job well. We have to admit that we did enjoy our yoga experience here.
Though this center trains on an individual basis, group classes for children can be arranged on request. And plans are afoot to introduce the teacher training course in a short span of time. The class fee of Rs. 100 per session goes to support the trust activities, we are told.
Our verdict – Yoga Jyoti is apt for yoga because of its calm ambience and unique style of teaching. Our suggestion – Always fix an appointment before going. Personal attention is this place’s unique selling proposition.
