What you see – Swasthaya - A Positive Health Studio is located in the basement of owner Hemalatha Rathi’s home in Basheerbagh, Hyderabad. The absence of a signboard makes it difficult to spot. But climb down a flight of stairs and you realize you’ve reached, as the place is buzzing with life. Hemalatha has a degree in Yoga, is certified as a Sujok therapist and also as a nutritionist. She is even an experienced Herbalist and qualified in Step and Hi/Lo aerobics.
Swasthaya (only for women) has a gym with limited equipment and a multicolored spacious room (blue, yellow and orange) for aerobics. There are two shower cubicles and a salon, done in red and gold. A steam room used for both relaxation as well as weight reduction is also located here. In one corner is the spa room done up in soothing white.
What you get – The staff at Swasthaya include a well experienced masseuse, four ladies for the salon and seven certified trainers who work in shifts.
The charges for aerobics for one month is Rs. 1,500 (morning) and Rs. 1,200 (for the afternoon and evening sessions). For personal or individual training it is Rs. 2,000. The trainers track attendance and if a person is absent for two days or more they are either called or messaged.
Yoga, Pilates, weight reduction through Chinese therapy (heat pads, massages, diet, steaming and exercise) and weight gain (a balanced diet, exercise and massages) are the other services available here. Summer camps in aerobics are also offered.
Their salon services include manicures, pedicures, hair straightening, coloring, facials and more besides a hair spa providing treatments for hair fall, lifeless and rough hair. Some of their interesting facials are the Japanese, Thai and Liquor facials and these cost between Rs. 800 and Rs. 900 respectively.
The types of massages done at Swasthaya are quite unusual as well. Some of these include the Sand massage (heated sand mixed with herbs in a bag and is good for joint and body pains), the Liquor massage (a good relaxant for which liquor based products are used) and the Full Body Fruit massage (also a good relaxant using fruit based products). There’s also Color Therapy massage which involves use of six different colors of lighting in the room. The color is chosen according to what’s suitable for a person’s blood group.
They also conduct regular corporate and awareness programs where they customize programs so that even a one-liter water bottle can be used in the place of dumbbells.
Our verdict – Swasthaya is only for women. It has a homely ambience and offers multiple services under one roof. Besides, Hemalatha who runs this, has had education in several streams related to health. Natural products are used for all treatments and medication is a strict no-no. Worth checking out if you live around Basheerbagh. Parking will have to be done along the side of the road, as there’s no specific place allotted.
