The small store of about 800 square feet has a whole lot of replicas as well as original antiques neatly displayed. Syed Nadir Hussain, who’s been in the business since the early 90s, started the English Antique Replica store in 2004 in Hyderabad. He tells us, collecting antiques is his hobby that has rubbed off on the rest of the family as well.
What you get – From vases, chandeliers, clocks and wooden corner tables to porcelain showpieces, replica paintings and cut glass mirrors, all are available at the English Antique Replica store in Hyderabad.
The chandeliers, crystal vases and porcelain showpieces are all from Iran, while the furniture is of Burma teak wood and made here in Hyderabad. The furniture pieces are also unusually designed and are antique replicas. These include escritoires (a writing desk with compartments and drawers, concealed by a hinged flap on a chest of drawers), an open and close bar on wheels, concert cum bridge table, a coat hanger with key drawers attached and sofa sets among other pieces.
Take your pick from other interesting items available at the store like sand timers, crockery, different sized clocks, grandfather clocks, antique kerosene lamps, Satsuma Japanese watches, antique wooden fans, replica table fountains, brass table lamps, original and replica compasses. There’s even a collection of beautiful and original Tiffany lamps from Italy, priced between Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 15,000. You could even get replica wall hanging plates at Rs. 1,000 each, while an original plate would cost Rs. 2,500 each. Syed tells us he even has a collection of original post cards priced between Rs. 200 and Rs. 500. Sounds like a collector’s dream!
Our verdict – A walk around the English Antique Replica Store takes you back in time. The décor items are one-of-a-kind and could make a pretty picture at home. This shop is for the antique lover in you, especially when you don’t know where to get the real stuff or can’t afford to spend a fortune on it. They custom-make furniture as well and also do home delivery. Parking seems almost impossible for cars, while two-wheelers have limited space.
