What you see – Lounge Habits, on Road No. 45, Jubilee Hills (near State Art Gallery) is a concept that could go well with just about anyone today. It is basically a place where you can spend leisure time, attend workshops, have fun with family and friends or just slouch on a sofa and read a book.
Started by some young turks (the oldest one is 26 years old!), Lounge Habits is set in a multi-storied bungalow. The color orange rules here, whether it is in the paint of the building, the clothes and caps of the people at your service or even the visiting card of the ones running the show. Wooden and cane chairs in the restaurant upstairs and the coffee shop downstairs, bean bags in the rooms (bulky ones for older people and small ones for the kids) and a face-shaped tooth-pick holder with a ring for the ear are a part of the interesting décor here.
What you get – This is a place where you can read a book, play a simulation game, watch a movie, enjoy a board game, hold a workshop or even attend one – and all this while you munch on a sandwich and flush it down with a Coke.
On the ground floor is the coffee shop where you can sit outside and sample some cappuccino or espresso. Walk up the stairs and there is a lot more that you can do. To start with for kids they have games and toys that range from building blocks and adventure path games to electro-magnetic sets to help learn science and electronic rattles for babies. The charges are Rs. 100 for each kid for one hour for any number of toys or board games.
For older kids there are Wii simulation games to try out and Xbox 360 to spend time with. You can even try one of these games for free to gather whether you would enjoy playing the game or not. Trust us, it is fun. The games here range from classic Kameo to Yuvraj Singh Cricket 20.
Then there are loads of movies you can pick from. Schindler’s List, Gone with the Wind, Salaam Bombay, Roja, Kramer Vs Kramer and Annamaaya is just a part of the varied collection that you can check out. Kids can enjoy some series like the Harry Potter, Tom and Jerry, Tales of Akbar and Birbal etc. There are some educational movies too from Discovery Travel and Living and National Geographic apart from rhymes, grammar and Vedic Maths. For a three-hour slot of their home theater they charge Rs. 1,000. The group could be as large as 15 people.
So what else can you do here? Well, you can just pick up a book from their range which includes titles by Agatha Christie, Satyajit Ray, Richard Bach and PG Wodehouse among others. They even have Tintin and Calvin and Hobbes. There are interesting combo offers like a club sandwich, Coke and a book (no time limit for reading) would come for Rs. 175. Soups, salads, corn wraps, pizzas, pastas, sizzlers and desserts like chocolate sledge and cheese cake are the other things you can binge on here.
After all those activities you can even end up buying some things from here. Lounge Habits allows you to pick up anything from the lounge for a price. Some interestingly designed stuff includes a zipped fake coconut, a dhobi ghaat photo frame and a wine bottle lamp.
Lounge Habits also allows you to hold workshops where you can showcase your theatrical talent, musical abilities and more.
Our verdict – This is a place that could take away your worries about how to spend a weekend the edutainment way. There is something for the entire family. And then it allows you to choose. For instance, if you were to watch a movie with your 15 friends at a theater you would have limited choices in terms of timings and the type of movie. Here you can decide to watch even an old classic at around 10 in the morning. What’s more? It is a place where you can comfortably spend time alone as well with a book in one hand and a coffee mug in another. Parking space is available.
