What you see - Located just below the Begumpet flyover, Ocean is pretty easy to miss, huddled among a few similar shops. You enter and you think you are in a small kids’ clothing store. But don’t be fooled. The staff can just lead you on and on inside the store that is more than well-stocked with everything kids need. In fact, it is so full that it sometimes looks cramped. Clothes hanging all over the place give you a whiff of their product line.
What you get - Everything you want for children and at affordable rates. It’s the baby’s section that you see first. From feeding bottles at Rs. 80 to wall drops (cloth hanging that when let loose forms a shelf) for Rs. 305. They have tiny T-shirts in pale blues and sunny yellows for a day-old child too. These are priced at Rs. 50. They have prams, cradles and also toilet trainers for all below Rs. 2,000. Blankets for babies with hoods can be bought from here for Rs. 330, while bathing mats come at Rs. 280. They have nappy pads for Rs. 12 each.
In a parallel section, they have dresses for up to three-year-olds. They have tiny skirts and spaghetti tops that go with it. A crocheted mauve skirt with a plain top and a summer hat to go along with it comes for Rs. 930.
Moving forward to their section for young girls, they have ghaghras for Rs. 1,200 and the most expensive one is priced at Rs. 6,000. That comes with a lot of zari and embroidery work on chiffon.
Indo-westerns seem to be the highlight of the store. These are basically churidars but the kurta above it could either be a halter-neck one or with spaghetti straps. These come mostly with sequin work on it, but there are a few garish printed ones in black and pink too. Stay clear of these. These come between the range of Rs. 800 and Rs. 1,600.
Here boys too are spoilt for choice. Other than the regular trousers and shorts, they have capris, kurta pyjamas, suits (up to Rs. 3,000) and sherwanis (Rs. 1,000-2,000).
Then they have a whole range of shoes and sandals for both. Boys can opt for military shoes for Rs. 1,000. Girls have embellished slippers for around Rs. 400. They have the Japanese styled wooden shoes too here for Rs. 300. They have roller skate blades as well.
That is not all. They have an accessories section and nothing there exceeds Rs. 30. They have scrunchies, tiny colourful clips, bangles, net-like headbands and armbands. They have Disney-inspired cellophane tapes and head gear too. They have funky watches for Rs. 200.
They also have books on wildlife, magic tricks and fairy tales near the cash counter. They have picture boards too for children.
Our verdict - This place is a must-visit for all those who have young children. They stock variety and the latest styles too. They do have an exchange policy, even if the color runs. There is parking space too.
