What you see - Yama Guchi, one of the largest chains of institutes for training in karate is named after the world's grandmaster in karate who hails from Japan. This institution was started by R K Krishna, a grandmaster and Rajiv Ratna awardee. Today, the chain has around 42 branches in the twin cities. These include YMCA (Narayanguda), Chadarghat Victoria Playground, Sultan Bazaar Hanuman Vyayamshala School, Defence DRDL, NTR Stadium and Saroornagar Stadium. Some others are also run in different schools across the city. Krishna’s assistants teach in all the other branches while R K Krishna conducts classes in Chadarghat Victoria Playground as well as near Sultan Bazaar police station.
What you get – This institution that has been around since over 25 years can train you in karate at all levels from white belt, yellow, orange, green, brown to finally black. The duration for each of the belt varies from four to six months depending upon the learner's regularity. Basic martial arts and self defense techniques can be learnt through the completion of the white belt level.
Anybody from the age group of 5 to 50 years is eligible to enroll in any of the branches. A nominal fee of Rs. 500 at the time of registration and Rs. 200 from the next month onwards is charged by the teachers. One can also purchase their Karate dress for a nominal Rs. 200 and Karate T-shirt for Rs. 40.
Classes are held in the open ground at all the centers from 6 AM to 7.30 AM in the mornings and in the evenings from 6 PM to 7.30 PM. Usually, it is combined classes that are held for both the genders. However, at Sultan Bazaar, where R K Krishna teaches, separate classes for women are conducted from 7 AM to 8.30 AM.
Our verdict – Yama Guchi has been around since years. So it has built a reputation over time. Worth checking out.
