Marriages are made in heaven, or so they say. Wedding cards, therefore, probably are some of the few things where you can have a say and therefore improvise upon. In Hyderabad, there is a street in Gowliguda (drive from Koti to Osmania Medical College and then towards Afzalgunj; Gowliguda comes on the way) that is famous for wedding cards. Here you can get variety in style and price. Shops of all sizes are lined up on both sides of the lane and for many of these shopkeepers here this is a family business. They have been doing this since years and have been quite successful at that. The business for them therefore remains the same though many have upgraded to include digital cards and printing into their scheme of arrangements too. Read on to know more.
Don’t go by the cards on the glass display when you walk by the street. There is much more available in each of these shops.
Visit four to five shops to make the final choice in terms of design, color and price.
Pastel shade cards seem to be in fashion. Try the aqua, turquoise or lavender shades as these are pleasant to look at and give a dainty picture. However, if you’d prefer going for the traditional white, maroon or burnt orange colored cards there are plenty of those available too.
Designs with Lord Ganesha, conch or Om are some of the common ones that you will get to see here.
Most of the regular sized cards are priced at Rs. 3 and above.
Scrolls are also available in a variety of styles. These start at Rs. 14 and go up to Rs. 80.
A unique one that we found was a potli type card, with the invite popping out of it. This one is priced at Rs. 14 per piece.
You could even recommend your own designs. For instance, you can get a caricature of the couple done on the back of the card.
Digital cards can also be done at some places at a cost of Rs. 5 per card. These cards give you more leeway to personalise as you even get photographs printed on the card.
You should bargain at these places as you have plenty of shops to choose from and a lot of variety too.
The shops are usually open till 8.30 PM.
Hindi or Telugu works well here.
So stroll down the road, browse through the variety available at some of these shops and take your pick.
