What you see - DVD store, Cinema Paradiso is an ultra-urbane outlet with swanky interiors. Here you see that piracy is a big No-No. Therefore it seemingly exercises great caution to ensure that it stocks only original DVDs.
What you get - Having started its operations more than a couple of years back, Cinema Paradiso today has a mind-boggling collection of DVDs which includes Hindi classics, new releases, director's specials, Oscar award series, world series, TV serials, global commercials, special interest series and documentaries.
It also has an awesome 52-inch plasma-screen, where you could watch a DVD of your choice. Cinema Paradiso charges Rs. 1,000 for screening each movie, which could be watched by 11 people.
According to the store in-charge, Purushottam, there is a huge response for Telugu and Hindi new releases. The rental cost for these new releases is Rs. 75 per day whereas for the regular ones it is Rs. 75 for 3 days. It also has a huge collection of TV serials for which it charges a maximum of Rs. 250 for 5 days. For the classics, director's series, Oscar award series and the World Series, the charges are Rs. 100 for 3 days.
Also impressive is the collection of about 60,000 commercials from across the globe, for which it charges Rs. 500 for 5 days. Special interest series and documentaries are the least-in-demand DVDs at the store. The DVD store also has a magazine corner which stocks issues of Sight & Sound, The Hollywood Reporter and Fade In. Cinema Paradiso also has branches in Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Coimbatore.
Our verdict - Cinema Paradiso is clearly a movie-buff's paradise. The fact that it stocks only original DVDs is praise-worthy. Watching a movie here with a bunch of friends is an experience of its kinds. But do book a couple of days in advance to avoid disappointment.
