What you see - This book store is huge (no wonder it calls itself Himalaya). So what you see here is not only a large collection of books ranging from educational and spiritual to fiction and biographies, but also a massive array of gifts, accessories, toys, educational CDs, magazines and stationery items. This could probably be the reason behind the steady flow of customers at Himalaya, who you see busily browsing through the available books, blissfully unaware of the close circuit television camera keeping an eye on them.
What you get - Now Himalaya is basically popular among the city people for its stock of school books. But apart from that it has quite a wide range of books for higher education. Books to prepare for national and international entrance exams like the Common Aptitude Test and Test of English as a Foreign Language are also available here.
But if educational books are not your requirement you could even check out Himalaya’s collection of fiction that includes Indian authors like R K Narayan apart from international names like Dan Brown. Translated versions (Hindi) of bestsellers like Pervez Musharraf’s Line of Fire and Shiv Khera’s You Can Win are also available here. Make sure you browse through the special books on photography, architecture, cookery, computer, pregnancy and child care. You may just find one that suits your interests.
Now the books here are well-arranged and so can be easily located. But even then if you face trouble in finding the book that you want, you need not fret. Help is just at an arm’s distance here, courtesy the customer sales representatives.
Our verdict – This is a place that you can bring along your kids as well. For while you spend time choosing your book over here, your 6-12 year olds can busy themselves at the toys section or spend time making a choice among the school bags and chocolates that the store stocks. MetroMela also suggests that you check out the wooden clock (Rs. 13,750) and the classy antique telephones (Rs. 4,600) here. They really stand out among all the available gift items here.
