Kanjivaram sarees also known as Kanchipuram saris are mostly handwoven in Tamil Nadu. It has a wide contrast border that makes it unique from other silk sarees. Kanjivaram sarees are very costly because of its intricate work and silk thread. The thread used for zari work is pure silver dipped in gold. This is what makes the sari expensive. The cost can vary from 2000 to 1.5 lacs INR.

Mostly sun, moon, flowers, peacocks, lions, trees, buttas and many such motifs are woven on the Kanjivaram sarees. Sarees woven with heavy silk and gold are said to be worn on special occasions like marriage or festival.
